Last year saw some major developments in the ski area of Chatel, with new chair lifts to link the Super Chatel and Linga pistes, and introduction of a fantastic ‘magic carpet’ beginner lift at Pre La Joux.
So with the ski area in tip top shape for the 2015/6 season, what else is new? Well… as you know a big part of a ski holiday is eating and drinking and this season sees some exciting new restaurant and bar openings
One of our favourite spots for a drink and a snack in the centre of Chatel, Le Hors Piste is under new management and has never looked better! Tina and Tony have jazzed up the interiors and created a stylish little bar at the front of the building with cosy restaurant area at the back and pizzeria on the lower floor.
The restaurant food is freshly made to order with a small but delicious menu that changes frequently, and the pizzas are as authentically Italian as you can get! Breakfasts, morning coffees, apres and late night drinks will also be available at Hors Piste.. so see you there!
We absolutely love the skiing in Super Chatel above the village, but if we’re honest it’s always tricky to get a really decent lunch up there (and we all know how important a decent lunch is on a ski day!) We’re hoping that the brand new L’Escale will provide the solution to our dilemna!
Situated right by the top of the Super Chatel telecabine with a huge sunny terrace overlooking the village, L’Escale will feature a stylish bar/restaurant serving brasserie style lunches as well as Savoyard favourites. We can’t wait to try it out!

There’s limited information about this new offering at Plaine Dranse (just at the top of the Pierre Longue chairlift), but if what we hear is correct La Folie des Neiges will not only offer a new lunch spot with brasserie, rotisserie and bar – but it will also have a big focus on apres-ski…. how exciting!
The exterior of the building is looking very smart, so here’s hoping for a great new place to stop for a cheeky apres on the last run home!
