Chatel
Nestled in the heart of the Portes du Soleil ski area, Chatel is a picturesque resort that perfectly blends traditional alpine charm with modern amenities. Its quaint village atmosphere, characterized by traditional alpine architecture and scenic beauty, offers a tranquil escape from the hustle and bustle. The resort is divided between two mountain ranges, providing diverse skiing options for all levels.
Chatel is also a fantastic choice for families, having been awarded the French Family Plus certificate for its child-friendly facilities and services. With access to 650 km of ski runs across twelve French and Swiss resorts, Chatel promises an extensive and varied skiing experience, making it a top contender for your next ski holiday.
If you are not familiar with Chatel, it is a beautiful old farming town rather than a purpose built ski resort so there are no real ski-in / ski-out chalets and the resort is quite linear. There is a free bus service which runs around the town but we recommend having a car in resort if staying with us on a self-catered basis.
Essential Tips for Driving to Ski Resorts
A smooth drive to the Alps will require a bit more preparation than just setting your Sat Nav.
Paper work:
Double check with your vehicle insurance company you have the Green Card to drive and be fully insured when in Europe. We recommend having paper proof of this in your car.
Car:
When driving in Europe its a legal obligation to carry a warning triangle and high-vis jacket in your car. It’s advisable to double check tyre pressures, oil levels and screen wash before setting off.
Snow Chains:
The mountain roads are very well salted, gritted and cleared of snow during the winter however you may require snow-chains if there is fresh snowfall during your stay. We also recommend practising how to put these on before starting your journey. It’s also a good idea to have gloves and a torch in your car if you need to put them on in the dark
