The Portes du Soleil is the largest ski area in Europe located between Lake Geneva and Mont Blanc. There are 12 interlinked resorts in the Portes du Soleil with over 650km of pistes.
Top 5 reasons to ski in the Portes du Soleil:
The Portes du Soleil is still unknown by many British holiday makers because there are no major tour operators based in the area. As such the area has maintained it’s Savoyard charm and is not overrun with English holiday makers.
If you are looking for chalet accommodation in the Portes du Soleil then you will find the best choices in the French resorts of Les Gets, Chatel and Morzine. There are a few chalets run by VIP Ski in Avoriaz, however you will find the majority of accommodation to be self-catered apartments. The Swiss resorts such as Champery, Torgon and Morgins generally cater for the European market with several hotels and apartment buildings, but not many choices for catered ski chalets.
Les Gets, Chatel and Morzine has a fantastic array of owner operated ski chalets either on a catered or self-catered basis. On the whole the accommodation in the Portes du Soleil is very reasonable with prices much lower that the Trois Valley and the Espace Killy. The prices of ski chalets in the Portes du Soleil can vary enormously depending on the size, location, quality and service levels.
Self-catered chalets from £2500 – £8000 for the whole chalet.
Catered chalets from £500 – £2500 per person.
Here are a few questions to bear in mind when booking your ski chalet:
We have been operating luxury ski chalets in the Portes du Soleil for many years and we find every group is slightly different thus requiring different criteria from their holiday accommodation. For example, if you’re a group of young professionals looking for a good ski resort with plenty of nightlife I would recommend Morzine. If you are skiing with very small children then Les Gets is a good choice. If you want a super luxury chalet then I would recommend Chaletneuf du Tenne, if you are looking for a great value chalet with hot-tub then Belle Vache is a great choice. With a small amount of Google research it should be very easy to find the perfect chalet for your group in the Portes du Soleil.
