Book early – Many of the best chalets get booked at least a year in advance. Regular skiers will often book the same chalet year after year, so we would certainly recommend looking in February or March for the following season.

Look for early flights – The cost of travelling in half term can be 5 times the price of other weeks, so keep an eye on Easyjet and book as soon as flights are released.

Short transfer – The roads from Geneva and Chambery airports can get congested during this period with some transfers taking 4 hours plus. If travelling with children it can be a good idea to choose a resort with a short transfer.

Start your ski day early – The slopes can get busy during the school holidays so we recommend hitting the piste at 9am when the lifts open and beat the queues.

Book restaurants – If you like a nice lunch after a morning on the slopes then it is a good idea to reserve a table as many of the restaurants will be fully booked. This is especially important if skiing in a large group.

Which resort – During the school holidays it can be a good idea to choose a resort which is less well known in order to avoid the crowds.  Choose a resort with no major tour operators but with a large ski area such as the Portes du Soleil and it is possible to avoid much of the congestion of larger resorts.

Ski sensibly – Many people like to ski really fast which is great fun, however it is very dangerous when the slopes are busy and it’s easy to crash into other skiers. A trip to the doctors will certainly spoil your holiday.

Ski hire delivery – The ski shops can be very busy on changeover days so avoid the queues and have your ski equipment delivered to your chalet

Have a great holiday!
